Normally we conduct a History Walk every November on a Saturday afternoon. Given there was still a little uncertainty around Covid issues we again chose this year to prepare detailed notes for you to do the Walk by yourself at any time that suits you.
The theme is Alexandra Parade – Past, Present and Future. The starting point is the intersection of Alexandra Parade and Smith Street, where you can find out about the former Gasworks, the Gasometer Hotel, Ryrie’s Paddock, and how Mater St got its name.

We have now prepared the map, illustrations and notes and they have been uploaded to this site under the section Participate – Walks and Talks.

Usually we look forward to finishing the Walk at one of our local historic pubs, where we can try out their beer and continue chatting about matters historical. It is a shame to miss that this time, but Covid and opening hours permitting, you might be able to pop in for a reflective ale by yourselves.
Let’s hope that we can conduct a real live History Walk in 2022!
