Before obtaining land in Stanton Street and building the impressive Church of Christ Tabernacle (now Collingwood Library), members of the Church of Christ built a chapel in Langridge St just off Smith Street, and held their first service on 15 December 1872. Around 1888 the property was sold and it had various uses over the years, including Jesuit Services from 1995 until recently. The property, which extends through to Derby Street, was sold for $8.05 million and will become the site of luxury apartments.
