Recurrent Witnesses: the Marrying Vicar, Nathaniel Kinsman

17 January, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT

Free

CHS is pleased to welcome Dr. Méthot, Professor of History at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta.
With her particular area of expertise being bigamy, she is involved in a larger network of international scholars on this subject.
After several months as a Visiting Professor at Macquarie University, Dr. Méthot will spend January in Melbourne in order to carry out research in local archives. She has kindly offered to present a talk to CHS, with a particular focus on Nathaniel Kinsman, known as ‘The Marrying Vicar’ because of the extraordinary number of marriage ceremonies he performed. Kinsman, leader of the breakaway ‘Free Church of England’ whose church was in Park Street Abbotsford, is one of the many intriguing figures included in our database of Notables of Collingwood.

To find out more, here are Dr. Méthot’s websites:

Note that bookings are essential for both the talk and dinner.
Dinner starts around 6:30 pm, and the talk at 7:45 pm.
Cost: The talk event is FREE but you will, of course, need to pay for your meal and drinks at bar prices.
Go to ‘Contact Us’ to book. Include whether you are attending the talk only, or dinner as well.
Finally, this event comes with the proviso ‘Covid permitting’. If it is unable to be held we will present it via Zoom. Anybody who has booked will be notified of last-minute changes.
