To mark of the 50th anniversary of Vietnamese migrants arriving in Australia, Yarra has commemorated 13 notable sites in Yarra’s Vietnamese heart, Victoria Street.
The first generation of Vietnamese refugees began arriving in Australia in the mid-1970s as a result of the Vietnam War. Victoria Street has since become one of the primary centres for Vietnamese culture, business and community in Victoria. The commemorative plaques that have been installed by Council recognise the enormous contributions the Vietnamese community has made to Australia culturally, economically and to our communities over the last five decades.
